The exodus before the storm?

Syracuse's young stars Donte Greene and Jonny Flynn both make Chad Ford’s latest freshman-who-might-be-first-round-picks list. Greene looks like the sixth pick, Ford writes. Kansas State's Michael Beasley, Memphis' Derrick Rose, Indiana's Eric Gordon, Texas A&M's DeAndre Jordan and USC's O.J. Mayo are top five.

At this point, Greene looks poised to make it six out of six freshmen at the start of the first round. He's drawing some comparisons to Marvin Williams and Rudy Gay with his size, athleticism and ability to shoot. But the truth is, as a freshman, he's already having a more productive season than either Williams or Gay had in college.

Flynn is a “Other to watch.”

I'm not sure any of that is terribly good news for a Syracuse program that might, maybe, possibly miss the NCAA tourney for a second year in a row. (Lunardi was on Seattle radio this morning. He predicted Syracuse would be on the bubble the entire year). The Orange cannot be losing its stars, particularly if they aren't even stars enough to win anything.

I just logged on to post about the exact same thing, but instead now I can go right to sleep.

Fyall's exactly right, though I remain optimistic for this season in lieu of the moral victory at Georgetown the other night. We need to win 7 of our last 11 games to get to 20 wins overall and 10-8 in the Big East. That's similar to last year, so our stronger schedule strength should push us over the top. The schedule gets a tad easier between now and when Georgetown comes to Syracuse. 4 wins in their next 5 is very doable. That turns the season around.

As of the Chad Ford column, my odds on Greene jumping to the NBA move from 50% to 66%. Odds of Flynn leaving move from 10% to 25%.

Call me crazy, but I still think next year's team will be better than this year's team even if they BOTH leave (as long as Harris stays). But that's an argument for another post... I'm still in "focus on this season" mode.

Some good news: my buddy Whitey knows some one who works with Arn Tellem (NBA agent extraordinaire) and he said that the latest on Donte is that he is leaning towards staying for another year. It could obviously change daily but I just wanted to provide Cuse fans with some good news.

I just heard on the telecast of today's game that Donte went on the record to say he was going to stay. I think they said that the only way he'll jump is if he's guaranteed to be a Top 3 pick. So I'm now back to 40% chance he'll jump, which puts the likelihood of Flynn jumping much lower.
