SU's opener, via text message

The NCAA basketball preview is coming very soon. Until then, here's the text messages sent and received by my phone tonight, while SU took down Siena to tip off the season...

Me: Su on espnu tonight. You getting it? 7:03

Chris: Oh man! I don't know. And i don't feel prepared to write anything insightful on SU. We'll score. A lot. That's what I think. And we'll play more man to m. 7:05

Chris: Tv. yahoo says no SU. Blast. 7:11

Chris: We get final tomorrow though in HD. 7:13

Me: Greene, flynn, and deven all have threes. Oh Flynn just hit another. The young guys have tons of talent. Siena looks game though 7:16

Chris: Cool. Keep me updated. 7:17

Me: Yup. We can all score. Devo wants to be the guy this year. He has eleven. 540 to go first. 40 to 29 7:32

Me: 53 39 half. Mom says hi 7:46

Me: Jackson has a nice touch. But it's only 66-60. If we just give the ball to harris and onuaku they can't stop us. But fresh want to show off 8:20

Me: Tacos with 830 to go. Su by six. Flynn just hit a DEEP three. He has 24! 7 assists 8:31

Chris: Turnovers? Key stat for him, I think. 8:33

Me: Oh god. We're turning the ball over like crazy. That's the main story. They've got like 30 off turnovers. We're so raw but so talented. By ten with 7 to go 8:36

Me: Flynn broke melo's Freshman record with 29 [actually, it was 28]. Harris had 15 boards. 97 89 8:59

Chris: Wow. 9:02

My first text got cut off. It finished: "We'll play more man to man. Harris!"

After tonight's game, I finally looked up our first two boxscores, and read some expert opinions. I think my "we'll score" insight is confirmed. We can fill it up. Interior defense is going to be problematic. I don't know if we'll be smart enough to play good zone. I think we'll have one of the best man-to-man defenders in the NCAA, so we'll feature a lot of that.

Go team.

Having watched both games, I have to say... "We'll score" might be your most insightful comment ever. In our starting lineup, the only guy who can't create his own shot, Onuaku, just had 17 points. This team is going to be a ball to watch.

One other note, Boeheim ripped the defense after the first game, then said today that after watching the film it wasn't as bad as he thought. He thinks we have potential to get better. St. Joseph's struggled here and there with the zone.
